The purpose of this weblog is to give me a place to keep my writing. And to force me to write something. I aspire to do research and write non-fiction material as a career one day. Now, I'm a librarian in an urban public library, and I like doing it very much, but I find working for city government to be restricting and frustrating. I dislike the 9-6 scheduling. I feel I'm not doing the most good possible with the skills I have. But working in a public library is like going on an adventure every day.
I have an B.A. in English and an M.S. in Information Studies, and since I'd like to be a researcher/writer, I know I need to just... spend time writing. Right now I mostly spend a lot of time reading. And adventuring. So here's a new adventure--keeping a blog about my adventures.
I use the term "adventures" pretty lightly. My types of adventures are comfortable ones. Gentle hikes, camping on an air mattress with restrooms nearby, and general mild exploring. That kind of thing. I am someone who always wanted to join the Peace Corps but was too scared. I can't go white water rafting, or moutain climbing, or even camp in a place with no shower. But new experiences keep me going in life and always give me something to look forward to, and I've decided that I'd like to collect memories of them here. And if you enjoy comfortable adventures like I do, you might find my blog useful as you plan your next exciting (but not TOO exciting) activity.
